A message from the UCW
Loblaw’s has publicly announced that they have discovered that Canadians were overcharged for the cost of some packaged bread products in their stores and other grocery stores across Canada.
In response, they are offering eligible customers a $25 Loblaw Card, which can be used to purchase items sold in their grocery stores across Canada.
Co-Chairperson of the Unified Board, Rose Patterson, said her daughter Shannon suggested to her that if members of the congregation registered for the Loblaw Gift Card and donated the card they received, we at Camlachie could make a huge difference in the lives of people in Lambton County who have very little food security.
The Camlachie UCW has volunteered to coordinate the collection of Loblaw Gift Cards in 2018 and deliver the cards to our local food bank.
To be an eligible customer you must register for the gift card. Registration will open on January 8, 2018. To register on line for the Loblaw Card Program go to https://loblawcard.ca or click on this link.
If you and your household are willing to apply for a gift card and are willing to
donate your card, will you please register and then pass the card you receive
onto any Camlachie UCW member.
Thanking you in advance for your participation, Camlachie’s United Church Women.
IMPORTANT CHANGE TO MEETING TIME:
The executive recommended a change for the UCW meetings from the first Wednesday of the month to the second Wednesday of the month. This recommendation was approved by the UCW members to start in the month of February.
Our next meeting will be at 7:00 pm on February 14, 2018.
All are welcome.
Pie Day – February 11, 2017
We had a great turnout for our Apple Pie Day, including some great helpers from the Men’s Breakfast Group, who treated us to a pancake breakfast. Here are some photos taken that day.
The mission of the United Church Women (UCW) is to love God; foster Christian commitment, faithfulness, and spirituality; and promote respect and love for all God’s creation.
We are United Church Women and we believe: that as Christian women of faith, we nurture spirituality by reaching out with commitment and devotion to all God’s people; in promoting truth, justice, peace, caring and sharing with respect for all in the community and wider world; in loving God and others by living generously and giving joyfully; and in affirming and strengthening ourselves creatively in study and witness through music, laughter and solitude.
The Camlachie United Church UCW holds monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of the month, except for the months of July and August. These meetings normally start at 7 pm and include a program organized by a few of the UCW members, a business meeting and a social time with refreshments. The meetings are open to all women in the community.
The February meeting is usually a potluck, starting at 6 pm, followed by the program and business meeting. The June meeting is usually a dinner out at a local restaurant.
In addition to our meetings, we hold fundraising events to make meat pies and apple pies. We also host relaxing social get togethers. We make prayer shawls, support the local women’s interval home and other charitable organizations.
Camlachie UCW is part of Lambton Presbyterial UCW, which includes other United churches in the Sarnia-Lambton area. This group meets a few times a year for meetings and social gatherings.
